Know exactly what your migration takes — before you commit a dollar to it.
The Discovery Audit is the fixed-fee, platform-agnostic first step before any migration. In two to three weeks we inventory your real estate, rate the risks, design an open-standards target architecture, and hand you a firm scoped quote. Founder-led and evidence-first, with portable deliverables and remaining platform dependencies made explicit. It starts with a free 30-minute discovery call.
A ladder, not a leap
You should never sign a migration contract on a guessed-at number. So we break the commitment into three steps, each de-risking the next: a free discovery call to see if there's anything here, a fixed-fee audit that turns "we need to move" into evidence, and the scoped quote that evidence produces.
- /01
Free 30-minute discovery call
A founder-led working session, not a demo. We map your estate at a high level — platforms, customizations, integrations, the deadline you're up against — and tell you honestly whether a Discovery Audit is warranted, and what shape it would take. No obligation, no slide deck.
- /02
The Discovery Audit (fixed fee)
A scoped 2–3 week engagement against your real estate. We inventory what you actually run, score it for risk and convertibility, design an open-standards target architecture, and produce a firm, scoped migration quote. One fixed price, agreed up front — the deliverable is yours whether or not you migrate with us.
- /03
The scoped migration quote it produces
The audit's final output: a costed, risk-rated migration plan with a firm price and timeline, grounded in evidence rather than a guessed-at range. You can hand it to any partner — including a competitor — and the audit fee is credited if you proceed with Veltheon.
What you receive
The Discovery Audit produces four concrete artifacts — written down, evidenced, and yours to keep whether or not you migrate with Veltheon.
- /01
Assessment
A full inventory of what you run today — objects, customizations, integrations, ISV add-ons, data volumes, and the spend riding on top of it. The current state, written down and evidenced, not assumed.
- /02
Risk register
Every migration hazard surfaced and rated: end-of-life dependencies, base-system customizations, brittle integrations, and the support-cliff deadline. Each risk carries an impact rating and a mitigation, so nothing is a surprise at cutover.
- /03
Open-standards target architecture
We favour open formats and documented interfaces — including Apache Iceberg tables and PostgreSQL where they fit — to reduce switching costs. The decision and handover documents record the remaining platform dependencies.
- /04
Scoped migration quote
A firm, fixed-scope quote with phased effort, timeline, and price — derived from the assessment and risk register, not from a sales estimate. A plan you could execute with any qualified partner.
Open standards, explicit dependencies
We favour open formats and documented interfaces to reduce switching costs. The decision and handover documents record the remaining platform dependencies, including any migration effort or provider charges needed to change direction.
- Open table formats, not a proprietary lake — Your data lands in Apache Iceberg on object storage — an open, engine-neutral table format. Any compliant engine can read it. No re-extraction fee, no proprietary catalog holding your tables hostage.
- PostgreSQL and open APIs at the core — We target PostgreSQL and standards-based interfaces over closed, license-metered platforms. The schema, the queries, and the integration contracts are yours, in formats anyone can run.
- The deliverables are portable by design — The assessment, the risk register, the architecture, and the quote are written to be handed to any partner. We earn the migration on merit — never by trapping your data or your documentation inside our walls.
- No buyer lock-in — including to Veltheon — The whole engagement is structured so you can walk at any stage with everything you paid for. Open standards are the differentiator, and a differentiator only means something if it survives you choosing someone else.
Who it's for
The Discovery Audit is platform-agnostic, but it is sharpest for mid-market teams facing a forced re-platform — especially Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018 (and earlier) shops up against the extended-support cliff.
| Profile | Detail |
|---|---|
| Segment | Mid-market — enough complexity to need evidence, small enough that a botched cutover hurts |
| Sharpest fit | Microsoft Dynamics NAV (2018 and earlier) shops on the support cliff |
| The deadline | Dynamics NAV 2018 extended support ends January 11, 2028 [verified] |
| The pain | An unsupported ERP at the core of the business, and a shrinking pool of qualified partners |
| Also a fit | Any estate facing a forced re-platform — legacy ERP, Oracle licensing, or end-of-life infrastructure |
Microsoft ended mainstream support for Dynamics NAV 2018 on January 11, 2023; extended support runs to January 12, 2028 [verified]. Extended support carries security fixes only — it excludes non-security updates, and therefore excludes tax and regulatory updates. Dates as published in Microsoft’s lifecycle table, which states them in Pacific Time. What a Discovery Audit surfaces
An illustrative example for a mid-market Dynamics NAV 2018 estate facing the January 11, 2028 cliff. The findings show the shape of the output — a real engagement establishes the actual numbers on your data.
| Impact | Audit finding (illustrative) |
|---|---|
| High impact | Dynamics NAV 2018 reaches end of extended support on January 11, 2028 [verified]. After that date the core ERP runs unsupported — no security fixes, no Microsoft escalation path. This sets the hard deadline for the entire program. |
| Quick win | The majority of standard objects map cleanly to the current target base application and are auto-convertible with review — the bulk of the estate is low-risk and moves fast. |
| Watch | A band of custom objects needs light, mechanical remediation: dialect cleanup, deprecated-pattern replacement, and integration-contract updates. Scriptable, but it has to be done. |
| High impact | A small set of customizations modify core posting routines, and one ISV add-on is end-of-life with no supported successor. These are the manual-rewrite hotspots that set the critical path and the bulk of senior-engineering effort. |
| Quick win | Data is re-expressed into open Apache Iceberg tables and a PostgreSQL target — portable, engine-neutral, and free of the proprietary catalog the legacy platform charged for. No re-extraction fee to ever leave again. |
Illustrative only — percentages, hotspots, effort, and savings are derived from your real estate during the audit. We never present sample figures as your results.
The ladder, and how it is quoted
Every engagement starts with the free discovery call, then the fixed-fee Discovery Audit so the migration is quoted against evidence, not guesswork. The audit fee is credited toward the migration if you proceed. We don't publish a figure before we've seen the estate — what drives the number, and how the quote is produced, is set out in full on how we work.
Not to be confused with the Database Health Audit, which is a separate and separately-priced offer: one production database, read-only, about a week, ranked findings and a remediation shortlist. This page is the migration assessment — a multi-week engagement across your estate that ends in a scoped migration quote. If you are not planning a migration, the health audit is almost certainly the rung you want — and if you only need to find out what is wrong before committing to any of it, there is a smaller step beneath both: a first look at one database, read-only and diagnosis only.
| Engagement | What you get | Timeline | Terms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discovery call | Free 30-minute founder-led working session. High-level estate map, an honest read on whether an audit is warranted, and the shape it would take. No obligation. | 30 min | Free |
| The Discovery Audit (migration assessment) | Fixed-fee, platform-agnostic: assessment, risk register, open-standards target architecture, and a firm scoped migration quote. The deliverable is yours either way; the fee is credited if you proceed. | 2–3 wks | Fixed fee, quoted after the call |
| Scoped migration | The end-to-end migration the audit scopes — conversion, validation, open-standards target build, cutover, and hypercare — quoted against evidence rather than guesswork. | Per estate | Fixed fee, quoted by the audit |
Fixed fee, never time-and-materials: the discovery call establishes the firm price for your audit, and the audit establishes the firm price for your migration. Both arrive in writing, in Canadian dollars, before you commit to either. GST/HST is charged as a registrant.
Why Veltheon
- Evidence before commitment — we turn "we need to migrate" into a costed, risk-rated plan on your real estate before anyone signs a migration budget.
- Platform-agnostic by design — the audit isn't a funnel into one product. We assess what you run and recommend the right open-standards target, even if that isn't the easiest sale for us.
- Open standards, explicit dependencies — Apache Iceberg, PostgreSQL and documented APIs can reduce switching costs. We record the dependencies that remain, and the deliverables are yours to take to another qualified partner.
- Honest about what we hold — Veltheon is a new company and has no client references or case studies yet; we won't imply customers we don't have. We also do not claim certifications or partner competencies we have not earned. The founder's two decades of prior enterprise work is the depth behind the judgment, and we're glad to walk through it under mutual NDA.
- Your data stays yours — audit artifacts travel over TLS, are access-controlled, and are minimized; structure and metadata are enough to scope the work without exfiltrating production data. Application-layer encryption-at-rest for stored artifacts is designed but not yet built, and we don't claim it — our Trust page states the status control by control.
